Best Areas to Stay in La Libertad

La Libertad offers three very different places to base yourself. Stay in Trujillo for colonial architecture, restaurants and easy access to the region’s remarkable archaeological sites, choose Huanchaco for its beachside atmosphere and traditional coastal culture, or head north to Puerto Chicama for a quieter stay beside one of Peru’s most famous surf breaks.

Trujillo & Historic Centre

Trujillo is the cultural heart of La Libertad and the most convenient base for exploring the region’s extraordinary history. Its colourful colonial centre is filled with elegant mansions, churches, restaurants and cafés, while major archaeological sites including Chan Chan and the Huacas del Sol y de la Luna are within easy reach.

Staying in or close to the historic centre works particularly well for first-time visitors who want to combine sightseeing with good dining and easy transport connections. It is also where you’ll find many of the region’s strongest full-service hotels, ranging from comfortable city stays to more refined options.
