Introducing Purely Books: Stories Inspired by Peru

Purely Peru has always been about more than simply discovering places.

It is about the stories, traditions, landscapes and people that make Peru such an extraordinary country.

Now, we are bringing those stories to the page.

We are delighted to introduce Purely Books, a new part of Purely Peru dedicated to creating stories inspired by Peru, its culture, its landscapes and the values that connect generations.

Stories with Peru at their heart

Our aim with Purely Books is simple: to create stories that children and families can enjoy, while introducing them to some of the wonder, mystery and traditions of Peru.

Some stories will be playful and designed for younger readers. Others will take children on bigger adventures, exploring friendship, courage, responsibility, family and the importance of caring for others.

And, as our stories grow, so will the world around them.

Meet Mateo & Zuzu

Our first major adventure introduces Mateo, a nine-year-old boy whose life changes when he meets Zuzu, a mysterious talking fox with distinctive golden markings.

But Zuzu is no ordinary fox.

He is a Guardian.

Together, Mateo and Zuzu are drawn into an adventure set against the remarkable landscapes and ancient traditions of the Cusco region, where Mateo begins to discover that the world around him may contain far more than he ever imagined.

Along the way they meet Amaru, a wise Andean guide, and begin to uncover a much older story involving the Guardians and their purpose.

At the heart of Mateo & Zuzu: The Guardian's Journey are some very simple ideas that matter to us: integrity, honesty, caring for others, listening to those with experience, and understanding that worthwhile things require effort and responsibility.

They are part of the adventure rather than lessons imposed upon it.

And this is only the beginning.

Future Mateo & Zuzu adventures will take our characters to more extraordinary places across Peru while revealing more about the mysterious Guardians and the role they have played throughout history.

For our younger readers

Purely Books will also include stories created especially for younger children.

Pachamama introduces a gentler world inspired by Peru and the Andean relationship with nature, offering younger readers their own doorway into the stories, colours and imagination of the country.

We would like Purely Books to grow with children, from their earliest stories to larger adventures as they become more confident readers.

More than a travel destination

There are many ways to discover Peru.

You can walk through the streets of Cusco, watch the sun rise over the Andes, explore the Amazon, cross the desert near Ica or stand beside the Pacific Ocean.

But stories allow us to discover somewhere differently.

They allow children who may be thousands of kilometres away to imagine themselves there.

For families with a connection to Peru, they can also provide another way of sharing that connection with a new generation.

That is what we hope Purely Books can become.

A small collection of stories at first. And, over time, a growing library of adventures inspired by one remarkable country.
