Barranco is one of Lima’s most atmospheric districts, known for its colourful streets, old mansions, art galleries, cafés and Pacific Ocean views. Once a seaside retreat for Lima’s wealthy families, it is now one of the city’s most creative and characterful neighbourhoods.
Things to See in Barranco
Barranco has a very different feeling from the modern streets of Miraflores or the formal architecture of the Historic Centre. Its charm comes from its mix of old republican houses, wooden balconies, street art, small plazas and relaxed coastal views.
The district is closely associated with artists, writers, musicians and designers, and today it remains one of the best places in Lima to explore galleries, independent shops, cafés and restaurants.
Visiting Barranco
Barranco is a good place to visit slowly, especially on foot. Many visitors combine the Bridge of Sighs, the main square, local galleries and the coastal viewpoint in one relaxed visit.
During the day, Barranco is ideal for photography, cafés, art and a gentle walk through its historic streets. In the evening, it becomes livelier, with restaurants, bars and music venues giving the district a more energetic atmosphere.
